My Approach
My initial goal is for therapy to feel like you're in a space where it's easy to talk about hard things. Therapy is only as good as the relationship between you and I. I often describe myself as a pretty casual therapist who works on not-so-casual issues. I hope our work together feels like a conversation rather than an assessment of problems. As a support for you I try to make you feel listened to and safe to share, first and foremost. Likely, along the way we will probably laugh, because I try to find joy and levity, even in dark things.
My approach is direct, warm, and rooted in my strong belief that you as a client have the ability to make the necessary changes and deal with really hard things. What this looks like in practice is that I will be asking you a lot of questions at first, noticing and highlighting emotional and thought patterns that may be getting in your way, discovering together where these patterns came from, and most importantly, supporting concrete ways you can make meaningful changes to more successfully navigating the hard things in your life or past. Therapy will be hard, and it will be rewarding. And above all else, it should feel safe.
About Kira
I have been practicing therapy in Portland, Oregon since 2019 as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have experience working with children, teens and adults in outpatient, inpatient, and drug and alcohol programs. My primary passion is one on one therapy, and making strong connections with clients. I also partner with a local adventure therapy nonprofit providing therapeutic and recovery oriented education and services to teens while participating in hiking, climbing, ropes courses, and other outdoor group wilderness activites.
I'm a mom to a very loving, active and precocious tiny human, and in my free time I do all the Oregon things: pottery, hiking, climbing, paddling, wandering around Powell's, and drinking large amounts of coffee.
